The BBC takes over Blackburn Cathedral

22nd December 2022

It’s all go at Blackburn Cathedral this week as the BBC moves in ready for its Christmas programming.

For Blackburn Cathedral has been chosen as the home of Christmas worship on BBC One this year, with not one but two services to be broadcast live.

This Christmas Eve, the Dean of Blackburn, the Very Revd Peter Howell Jones will lead Midnight Mass with the Bishop of Blackburn, the Rt Revd Philip North at 11.45pm.

And they will be back on Christmas Day morning with a lively family service and a specially composed fanfare.

The Dean of Blackburn, the Very Revd Peter Howell Jones said:

“We’re delighted to be the home of Christmas on BBC One this year and very much looking forward to celebrating the birth of Jesus and the hope we find in the Christmas story.”

BBC Two showcases the traditional Carols from King’s, with a feast of music and spoken word from the magical, candlelit Chapel of King’s College, Cambridge, directed by Daniel Hyde.

Later on Christmas Day, Aled Jones will present the Christmas Day edition of Songs of Praise from Llandaff Cathedral in Cardiff, packed with favourite carols and seasonal music.
