Pride Progress Manchester

27th August 2022

The reason we fly this flag is to affirm our belief that all people are loved by God without discrimination. All are welcome at the Lord’s table and none are excluded.
Dean of Manchester, the Very Revd Rogers Govender

The Pride Progress Flag was raised on Manchester Cathedral earlier this week in time for the city’s Pride celebrations this Bank Holiday weekend

Greater Manchester LGBTQ+ Community Ambassador Carl Austin Behan, Manchester Pride Senior Marketing and Communications Manager Lizzy Holroyd, The Proud Trust Deputy CEO Susie Cuthill and LGBT Foundation Deputy Chief Executive Rob Cookson climbed the Cathedral Tower to raise the flag

The Dean of Manchester, the Very Revd Rogers Govender said:

“The Pride Progress Flag will once again fly on the tower of Manchester Cathedral in August in support of the LGBTQ+ community in our city region.

“The reason we fly this flag is to affirm our belief that all people are loved by God without discrimination. All are welcome at the Lord’s table and none are excluded.

“Moreover, as the Church of England is fully engaged in the Living in Love and Faith process, we are reminded that there are ongoing conversations about the full inclusion of LGBTQ+ brothers and sisters in the life of the Church of England.

“We are fully committed to these conversations and the Pride Progress Flag is a visible reminder of this journey that we are part of. Every blessing to each and every one of you as we observe and celebrate Pride in Manchester.”

Manchester Cathedral will hold a Pride for Eucharist service on Sunday August 28 at 6pm. All welcome
