One of the best known medieval scholars, Bede has been called the ‘Father of English History’ and ‘Teacher of the whole Middle Ages’. Find out about him and his work in our new exhibition. See rare manuscripts and early printed books, learn about the subjects he explored and discover how he continues to influence us today.
This snapshot exhibition, held in a smaller gallery of our museum, showcases some the best of Durham Cathedral’s collections related to the Venerable Bede. After you’ve enjoyed the exhibition, step into the octagonal Great Kitchen and get up close to iconic symbols of Durham, including the Sanctuary Ring and St Cuthbert’s Pectoral Cross.
