What will you discover this Easter? Discover Cathedrals

02nd April 2024

Grab your back pack and your Pilgrim Passport – wherever the Easter holidays may take you, we invite you to take time to discover the wonder and mystery of England’s 42 cathedrals and our partners from the church in Wales.

Visitors to our cathedrals can come on foot or by bike with dedicated routes – and many of our cathedrals now allow well-behaved dogs too.

There are self-led pilgrimage routes to every one of our cathedrals thanks to a collaboration between the Association of English Cathedrals and the British Pilgrimage Trust – find them here.

Plus cyclists can try the Cathedrals Cycle Route, a unique partnership between Sustrans, Cycling UK, the British Pilgrimage Trust and the Association of English Cathedrals that links every one of our 42 Church of England cathedrals in a new initiative to promote greener travel and mental and physical wellbeing.

There’s a Cathedral Cycle Champion at most of our cathedrals ready to welcome you and your bike.

Find the cycle routes here.

Our Pilgrim Passports – a passport sized booklet, full of inspirational quotes, pilgrim poems and prayers, a check list of cathedrals by region, and blank pages for visitors to record their thoughts and space to get their passport stamped at every cathedral – are available at each cathedral or you can buy them online.

You are invited to use this passport for your own adventure of discovery, following in the footsteps of many thousands of pilgrims who have come to these places over the centuries to learn, to think about their lives, and ask for God’s help and guidance or simply to discover the heritage and history of these sacred spaces.

Many cathedrals offer tours, trails and special events and you are very welcome to join their daily rhythm of prayer and worship.

Remember to check the website of each of our cathedrals ahead of your visit.
