More Award Nominations for your Cathedrals

28th October 2022

Cathedrals have been nominated in local and regional awards for the role they play in their communities and beyond.

Bradford Cathedral has just heard it has been shortlisted in the inaugural Yorkshire Post Tourism Awards in the category ‘Outstanding Contribution to Tourism’.

It competes with the Bloody Tour of York, Project Yorkshire and The Piece Hall and winners will be announced on 5 December.

The Dean, the Very Revd Andy Bowerman said:

“We’re excited to be a finalist in these awards, and it’s wonderful that our hard work is being recognised outside of the City. We look forward to attending the awards evening – and would also like to extend our congratulations to all the other finalists.”

Wells Cathedral has been nominated in three categories in the Bath Bristol and Somerset Tourism Awards. The three categories are:

  • Café/Tearoom of the Year (The Loft)
  • Dog Friendly Business of the Year (Wells Cathedral)
  • Tourism Event / Festival of the Year (Festival of the Moon)

Jackie Croft, Wells’ Chief Operating officer said:

Wells Cathedral is delighted to be shortlisted as a finalist for the Bath Bristol and Somerset Tourism Awards.

‘Like all Cathedrals across the land, we work very hard to provide a fabulous visitor experience for allcomers and it is good that this is being recognised across such a broad range of our activity, from dogs to the Moon!”

And in Chester, the Cathedral’s Works Department has been shortlisted for Team of the Year for the Marketing Cheshire Tourism Awards 2022/23.

They join 50 local businesses and organisations across 16 categories and the winners will be announced in March next year.

The awards are to give hotels, attractions, pubs and more a chance to show why they are a must-visit and recognise the excellence and outstanding achievement by local businesses and individuals working in Cheshire and Warrington’s visitor economy.

Many of the winners will go on to represent Cheshire at national level at the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2023, giving them the chance to showcase Cheshire’s outstanding tourism offer.
