Manchester launches ‘Capture the Cathedral’ photography competition
15th January 2014
Following the success of the 2012 competition, Manchester Cathedral is pleased to announce that the 2014 Capture the Cathedral competition is now open! Photographers of all ages are invited to capture the Cathedral, with all its nooks and crannies, in different and imaginative ways.
There are three categories in the photography competition: Young Photographer, Architecture and Stained Glass and Something Different; prizes will be awarded.
From 6 January to 28 March, people are invited to bring along their cameras and take pictures of the Cathedral which has recently reopened following an innovative renovation project which has radically adjusted its heating system, making it the most it the most environmentally friendly cathedral in the country. Ground source heat pumps deliver 80% of the heating requirements from “natural energy stored in the earth”.
Winners will be chosen by a panel of judges, and a selection of entries will be exhibited in the Cathedral from 10 May to 1 June. During the exhibition members of the public will be given the opportunity to vote for their favourite photo.
