Blitz Memorial Relocated and Blessed
28th August 2024
The People of London memorial unveiled to commemorate all those who died during the Blitz has just been reinstalled in the gardens of St Paul’s Cathedral.
Created by Richard Kindersley and funded by the readers of THe Evening Standard, the memorial was originally unveiled by The Queen Mother who counted herself among those who had endured the Blitz.
The stone was removed from its original location and kept safe while building work was carried out on the equal access entrance at the North Transept of St Paul’s and has now been reinstalled on the south side of the Cathedral following a blessing by the Dean of St Paul’s, the Very Revd Andrew Tremlett.
It was installed by St Paul’s property team and the new location offers a new opportunity for contemplation and remembrance, in the centre of the footprint to the medieval Chapter House of St Paul’s in the Churchyard Gardens.
