Volunteers’ Week – Thank you, Pete
“Lichfield Cathedral is a special place for me. I started volunteering because I wanted to share my enthusiasm and affection for it with others and to give something practical back to the place which means a lot to me.”
Pete Harris has been a volunteer at Lichfield Cathedral for eight years. He is a Welcomer, Trainer, and has been almost single-handedly establishing a world-wide network of churches under the patronage of St Chad, the cathedral’s co-patron.
“I had visited Lichfield Cathedral many times over the years before I moved to the Lichfield area. I have a love of buildings and history. Lichfield Cathedral is a special place for me. I started volunteering because I wanted to share my enthusiasm and affection for it with others and to give something practical back to the place which means a lot to me. I started by welcoming visitors to the Chapter House and soon added volunteering at big Cathedral events.
I enjoy engaging with a wide and diverse range of people and take pleasure from introducing the Cathedral to visitors who are visiting for the first time.
I then became a Welcomer and recently have become co-ordinator for Welcomer Training. I assist with roof tours and generally am willing to offer help where needed. I also co-ordinate a network of places dedicated to or with links to St Chad, the first Bishop of Lichfield.
The most enjoyable part of my role is meeting people, talking with them and hopefully sharing my enthusiasm for Lichfield Cathedral.”
Do you have time to offer or skills to share. Your cathedral needs you! Do get in touch with your local cathedral this #VolunteersWeek.
