Volunteers’ Week – A Big Thank You
31st May 2023
Today’s the day. It’s the start of national #VolunteersWeek – seven days from June 1 – 7 to celebrate and give thanks to that unsung army of volunteers who make our cathedrals the special, sacred spaces they are today.
English Cathedrals say thank you to our unsung army of Cathedral volunteers this #VolunteersWeek
Thousands of volunteers serve our cathedrals in some way, every day of the week and each day over the next seven days we will feature their stories.
But for today, the start of national Volunteers’ Week, let’s simply say THANK YOU to all our flower-arrangers, tomb-dusters, tea-mashers, tour guides, bellringers, welcomers, cake-bakers, gardeners, broderers, shop assistants, events stewards…
Without you, we would be so much less. We thank you.
The Very Revd Jo Kelly-Moore, chair of the Association of English Cathedrals and the Dean of St Albans, said:
“Volunteers’ Week is a key moment in our year to celebrate and say thanks to all our volunteers for all the contributions they make through their amazing efforts every day. Each and every one of our volunteers play a significant role in the life of our cathedrals. They are an extraordinary group of individuals, who give of their time and talents generously and are an example to us all.”
Many of our cathedrals are hosting their own events to mark this special week including services of thanks, tea parties, and recruitment drives, and most will share stories of their volunteers across their own social media platforms to say thank you too.
Like this lovely film from Winchester Cathedral to celebrate its volunteers.
