Virtual Art Tour
28th April 2020
Elizabeth Frink, Henry Moore, Eduardo Paolozzi, Antony Gormley and Grayson Perry – 20 works of art by the most important and influential artists of our time have just gone on display.
Salisbury Cathedral’s fresh new virtual interactive art tour.
2020 marks the 800th anniversary of the cathedral’s move from Old Sarum to its present site and the formation of the city around it – an outstanding achievement that required the utmost physical, technological and intellectual skills.
It is this extraordinary story that has inspired and informed this major art exhibition Celebrating 800 years of Spirit and Endeavour.
It was to have opened on 25 March but the Covid-19 lockdown meant that the launch had to be cancelled. Since then the Cathedral team have worked behind the scenes with Salisbury Cathedral’s Visual Arts Adviser and curator, Jacquiline Creswell, Patrick Price from Heads Above The Cloud and Stuart Hillcock of Footprint Innovations to make the exhibition and the catalogue available virtually, online.
The Art Tour and Catalogue can be viewed via the Salisbury website here.
800th ANNIVERSARY FOUNDATION DAY SERVICE IN LOCKDOWN
A Service of Thanksgiving on the 800th Anniversary of the Laying of the Foundation Stones of the Cathedral Church of New Sarum was held online today (28 April). It can be accessed via the cathedral’s website. The anniversary will be celebrated more fully later in the year when the cathedral is once again open for public worship.
