Truro Cathedral’s choristers sing on the Grenfell charity single

11th June 2018

Truro Cathedral‘s Girl and Boy choristers are the voices behind the Grenfell From Today charity single released to mark the “immense loss and the legacy of love” ahead of the first anniversary of the tower fire this Thursday.

The single, released on iTunes and YouTube, is the brainchild of Esme Page, whose charity Cornwall Hugs Grenfell has arranged more than 250 respite holidays for Grenfell survivors, bereaved families and firefighters.

Esme said the Grenfell From Today song was a “celebration of the community spirit that blossomed in the wake of the fire”.

Seventy-one people, including a still-born baby, died in the fire on June 14 last year.

Released by Universal Music Operations, all proceeds will go to the Grenfell Foundation and Ms Page’s charity Cornwall Hugs Grenfell.

Ms Page said:

“I felt the need for a dedicated piece of music to anchor forever both the immense loss and the legacy of love.

“We hope people everywhere will join in the song’s message: that we will never forget, either the huge loss or the community we can be, when we let go of our fear and step out in love,” she said.

The music is by Philip Stopford, the lyrics by Andrew Longfield, and it is performed by the choristers of Truro Cathedral Choir, and directed by Truro Cathedral’s Director of Music, Christopher Gray.

The Dean of Truro, The Very Revd Roger Bush, said:

“This beautiful song represents so many precious things – resilience, hope, community and above all, love.

“We are truly honoured that the cathedral choir was able to play a part in the creation of this special musical memorial.

“Through the work that Cornwall Hugs Grenfell carries out, Cornwall continues to open its heart and arms to those families and emergency services personnel involved in the horror that was the terrible fire that engulfed Grenfell, and we are pleased and privileged to support that.”
