Iconic dress worn by Penny Mordaunt for King’s coronation is on display in Portsmouth Cathedral for a few days only
That dress – worn by Penny Mordaunt for the King’s Coronation – is currently on display in Portsmouth Cathedral – part of its summer programme of events.
Portsmouth has just unveiled full details for The Festival of Storytelling – a wide programme of summer events featuring free story sessions, crafts, hands-on activities and outdoor theatre, plus an after-dark experience; “The Curiosities of the Cathedral Library” and a special exhibition featuring the iconic dress worn by local MP, the Rt Honourable Penny Mordaunt, at the Coronation of King Charles III which visitors can see up close and learn more about the symbolism behind its design and embroidery.
The exhibition is part of the Festival of Storytelling and will be on display for a limited time until Monday, July 31st.
Penny Mordaunt made history as the first woman to assume the role of Lord President of the Privy Council, participating in a historic Coronation. Her intricately designed dress quickly captured the public’s imagination, becoming a symbol of modernity and empowerment with a clear nod to Portsmouth’s maritime heritage.
As part of the summer experience, “The Curiosities of the Cathedral Library” offers an immersive adventure that will transport visitors into a place where stories come to life through a blend of light, projection, and sound. This takes place on 29 July and 5 August – pre-booking online is advised to avoid disappointment.
Richard Abraham, Portsmouth Cathedral’s Chief Operating Officer said:
“We’re really pleased with the rich programme of events taking place throughout the Festival of Storytelling. We’re also extremely honoured to be hosting the exhibit of Penny Mordaunt’s Coronation dress, giving the local community a unique opportunity to see this piece of modern history up close.
