20 Years of the Girls Choir at Southwell Minster
There will be a celebratory Evensong held this Saturday – just one day after the 20th anniversary of the Girls’ Choir’s very first service back in 2005.
Southwell Minster has 18 girl choristers and since their formation more than 80 girls have benefited from singing in the choir.
Head of fundraising, Ruth Massey, said:
‘The inclusion of girls in cathedral choirs is a journey that nearly all cathedrals have made, and was of course a natural development following societal and cultural changes.
’Today we are very proud of our girl choristers, Over the past two decades, the girl choristers have become an integral part of the choir, helping to shape the choir into the dynamic and inclusive musical force it is today.
‘It’s as if girl choristers have always been here, bringing joy and vivacity to the Music Foundation,’ she added.
