31st July 2024
Birmingham Cathedral has issued an open call to creatives to create a new contemporary nativity set that will launch in December 2025.
Artist call-out for new contemporary nativity set for Birmingham Cathedral
This is a new opportunity for artists / makers / craftspeople / blacksmiths / jewellers to make a substantial work that reflects marginalised voices from across the world and bears witness to global events.
And the cathedral wants to be able to showcase the specific trades and specialisms of Birmingham and the wider West Midlands.
Birmingham Cathedral’s Canon Missioner, Andy Delmege, said:
“This is an exciting opportunity to make a substantial work, and we are entirely open to ideas and concepts.
“This will be a large important project that brings marginalised voices and global events further into the heart of the cathedral and we look forward to working with artists on this.”
Birmingham Cathedral is working in partnership with Arts & Heritage on this contemporary commission and in the first instance, is asking for a short expression of interest by the end of August.
