More than a Building, Jonathan and Ian – Winchester Cathedral
22nd August 2018
More than a Building, Jonathan and Ian, Winchester Cathedral
Say hello to Jonathan Ryan and Ian James. Both give their time to Winchester Cathedral. Jonathan Ryan is the contracts manager there and a reserve fire fighter in his spare time (!) while Ian James is a member of the Cathedral’s virging team.
Jonathan Ryan. Contracts Manager. Reserve Fire Fighter.
Jonathan Ryan is a husband and father of two. He works 9 to 5 at Winchester Cathedral as Contracts Manager for all works on the cathedral estate. Recently he became an on-call firefighter at Winchester Fire Station 30. This is the Fire Station that would leap straight into action should there ever be a fire at the Cathedral. Our Cathedral is safe in his hands.
Ian James. Train enthusiast. Virger.
Ian is part of the Virging team at Winchester Cathedral. He works part-time to indulge his passion for heritage railways and volunteers at the Watercress Line and Talyllyn railways. Ian is also a keen photographer and loves to capture the ‘Hidden Cathedral’, parts of the Cathedral that only a Virger can see when the visitors and worshippers aren’t there.
Earlier this year he was part of a small team that monitored our Peregrine Falcons on the North Transept, where their three chicks hatched, grew and fledged.
CELEBRATED gardener, broadcaster and author, Alan Titchmarsh, will officially open Illumination: A Festival of Flowers at Winchester Cathedral on Tuesday 4 September.
The flower festival – inspired by the 12 century Winchester Bible will run from 5 to 9 September.
