14th February 2025
This Valentine’s Day Peterborough Cathedral has announced it has hit the halfway point in its “crisis” fundraising campaign – raising £150,000 of its £300,000 target.
Love from Peterborough Cathedral this Valentine’s Day as it announces milestone in its “crisis” fundraiser.
Launched to secure the future of this historic Grade I building, home to the tomb of Katherine of Aragon, Peterborough Cathedral launched the appeal to ensure it can remain open seven days a week and continue to be a hub of worship and culture in the city.

Head of fundraising, Anna Bentley said:
“We are overwhelmed by the kindness and commitment of our supporters.
“Your generosity is helping to secure a lasting legacy for Peterborough Cathedral, and on this day of love and appreciation, we offer our deepest gratitude to everyone who has made this achievement possible.”
The Cathedral has chosen Valentine’s Day to share messages of support from those who have made donations.
One donor said:
“You were there for me at a tough time in my life. I hope lots of people will be there for you at this tough time in yours.”
Another said:
“I’m not a person of strong faith, but I do recognise an important community asset that the Cathedral is. I’ve enjoyed the architecture and peaceful visits a number of times and would like to see it continue its good work. You are a landmark on my journey from the north to London – I hope you weather the storm an manage to stay open seven days a week.”
The Cathedral’s Crisis Campaign was launched in January to address critical repair work and essential costs to keep the iconic building open as a beacon of heritage and history.
The Cathedral has received widespread support from across the country, with many local businesses, community groups, and individuals rallying behind the cause.
It still needs to raise a further £150,000 by the end of March.
