This Advent and Christmas season the angels in our Cathedrals have proclaimed again the truth of God’s love come among us in Jesus Christ.

From those seen centuries ago captured in our stained glass to those knitted with love this winter to give hope to people in need.

Across the world and close to home, including in the Church of England, we need to hear and know the truth, and all the possibilities, of that transforming love again this Christmas.

To all those the angels encountered living out this transformative love, it started with them saying ‘yes’ to the invitation.

And so, this Christmas we invite each and every one of you to say ‘yes’ to the call of love.

The words in Edward Sears’ beloved carol, It came upon a midnight clear, which will be much sung this Christmas, sums it up so poignantly;

 But with the woes of sin and strife
the world has suffered long;
beneath the angel-strain have rolled
two thousand years of wrong;
And man, at war with man, hears not
the love-song which they bring; –
Oh hush the noise, ye men of strife,
and hear the angels sing!

May we each ‘hear the angels sing’ this Christmas.
