Half Term. No Half Measures in our Cathedrals

A whole range of half term activities are taking place in Cathedrals across the country. These are just some of the half term activities available in our cathedrals. Do check you local cathedral’s website for up to date information.

Half term in our cathedrals: What will you discover

The dinosaurs are coming to St Edmundsbury Cathedral this half term.

A pair of velociraptors from Teach Rex creative workshops will be teaching and entertaining children and young families next Wednesday (23 Feb) in two sessions in the cathedral throughout the day.

The sessions begin by showing the children some baby dinosaurs to introduce the topic. The main show includes being able to get up close with the velociraptorsand there are photo opportunities with the dinosaurs too.

There are additional dinosaur themed arts and crafts activities at St Edmundsbury Cathedral.

Half term in Lincoln Cathedral this week (Feb 14-19) is inspired by Luke Jerram’s installation of the Museum of the Moon, currently suspended in the cathedral. There’s intergalactic art activities and a drop in activity day to create the Perfect Planet with Kirsty Dring.

On Tuesday 15th February at 10am the Rhubarb Theatre present drama and storytelling under the moon with ‘The Way Back Home‘ this Thursday, while Journey to the Moon Trail is a family trail available to pick up in the Cathedral when you buy your tickets every day this week up to Saturday 19 February .

There are space-themed craft activities for children and families every day of half term at Liverpool Cathedral to coincide with the launch of Space, the Universe and Everything, the immersive sound and light show by creative duo, Luxmuralis which opens on Friday 18 February and runs until Sunday 27 Feb.

At Exeter Cathedral, family activities this half term will also take place under Luke Jerram’s replica art installation Museum of the Moon with the chance to make rockets, a constellation finder or moonscapes to take home. Under the Moon: Half Term Space Make takes place 21 – 25 February 2022 10am-12 noon with a different craft each day. And family arts and craft activities at Bradford this half term are all about welcoming Spring, involving nature, flowers and woodland creatures.

Maggie Myers, Bradford Cathedral’s Director of Education and Visitors, said:

“We are so pleased to be able to offer free family activities at Bradford Cathedral on Tuesday 22nd February during half-term once again. For younger children, there will be lots of colouring and craft activities related to spring, and for older children there will be quizzes and information as well as colouring and crafts. 

“Families are also very welcome to look around the Cathedral at their own pace or to join us on special family guided tours at 11am and 2pm.
