First Christmas in Reordered Cathedral Isle of Man
07th December 2024
First Christmas in reordered Cathedral Isle of Man.
It will be the first Christmas in the newly re-ordered Cathedral Isle of Man this year which is undergoing an ambitious project of renewal to create a vibrant centre for all.
A new floor and underfloor heating see the completion of Phase One which means the cathedral community can gather back in the cathedral to celebrate Christmas together after church hopping around the Isle of Man while the project was underway.
The Dean, the Very Revd Nigel Godfrey, said:
“After almost a year being out of the Cathedral, while re-ordering was taking place we worshipped in a combination of churches (there are five within the Cathedral Benefice) and also in the Cathedral Hall while the choir took Choral Evensong on Safari around the Diocese.
“The Cathedral at its heart is a place of worship, but this project will enable us to also be a hub for the arts, community, education, hospitality and events.
“We are glad to be back in the Cathedral for Christmas and we were delighted that HRH The Princess Royal, Patron of the Cathedral development was able to be with us for the re-opening on 17th October 2024.
The names of all known Bishops from the arrival of German in 447 – to the present day are carved on the nave floor from font to Altar.
The next phase will see a new accessible entrance door and new rooms including a new Chapter House and Chapel, equipment and furnishings including air source heat pumps to replace the gas boilers and stackable chairs and AV equipment and new lighting.
