Easter 2019 – Live from Southwell Minster

18th April 2019

Not once but twice …. Southwell Minster live on BBC this Easter Day

Two Easter Services are to be broadcast live from Southwell Minster on BBC Radio 3 and Radio 4 this Easter Sunday.

Radio 4 will broadcast Easter Sunday Worship at 8.10am on 21st April and Choral Evensong at 3pm on the same day (April 21) for Radio 3.

The Dean of Southwell, the Very Revd Nicola Sullivan, said:

“Broadcasting on Easter Day on BBC national radio is both a huge privilege and a considerable responsibility.

“The Cathedral’s live worship will be transmitted to millions of listeners, who we pray will be uplifted and inspired on the most important celebratory day in the Church’s year.”

Bishop Paul Williams, the bishop of Southwell and Nottingham, is the preacher at the 8.10am Easter Eucharist and Dean Nicola is presiding, with the Cathedral Choir singing.

Other services (open to everyone) are 6am Easter Sunrise service with Holy Communion (lighting the Easter fire outside the Minster near the north porch and moving to the Easter Garden), and 10.30am Easter Day Eucharist (sung by the Minster Chorale).

The collection following the Easter Day Eucharist will be for Notre Dame.

Please note, the congregation needs to be in place by 7.40am for the 8.10am service and seated by 2.45pm for the 3pm service. There is limited space in the quire.
