Christmas Market – Winchester Cathedral

Winchester Cathedral’s Christmas Market has long been hailed as one of the best Christmas Markets in Europe.

It opens on Friday 22 November and runs for 31 days to Sunday 22nd December 2024.

It boasts over a hundred traders, a charity chalet that supports a different local charity each day, sustainable gifts, local makers and crafters, food and drink and there’s a programme of music from a range of musicians and singers from across the county. Winchester cathedral has also organised a rich programme of Christmas inspired workshops (fee applicable) from fused glass to wreath making.

And each year the Christmas Market makes more strides towards being sustainable.

The market runs off mains power and LED lights are used to reduce the requirement.  This year the cathedral market tree will be lit using energy from solar panels thanks to a project led by the cathedral works team and their sponsor Paris Smith LLP. The toilets use vacuum flush technology so considerably less water is used in their operation and there’s a green events company for its waste and recycling operations.
