Cathedral Treasures of England and Wales, showcasing cathedral treasures shortlisted for a 2024 architectural book award.
This illustrated volume by Janet Gough OBE, tells the story of the treasures from 44 Church of England cathedrals and six cathedrals from the Church in Wales. Each treasure was chosen by the Dean or senior clergy of the cathedral featured – and all of them were showcased in our own winter 2022/23 social media campaign #CathedralTreasures.
#CathedralTreasures was launched for Advent 2022. Every day we revealed one treasure from one of our cathedrals for 50 days ending with the launch of a competition to name Britain’s favourite cathedral treasure to coincide with Heritage Fund’s annual Heritage Treasures Day in January 2023.
Janet is a lecturer and advisor on historic churches and cathedrals, and she said:
“People always talk in these circumstances about it being a joint effort but that is particularly true for this book.
“I share this honour with the cathedral deans whose favourite treasures make up the astonishing collection. It was my pleasure simply to curate.”
Cathedral Treasures of England and Wales is printed by Batsford and Scala and available to buy here.
The award is hosted by Booklaunch who will announce the winner in their summer issue.
Watch out for our next social media campaign – coming soon.
