Carlisle Cathedral – First Christmas Tree Festival
07th December 2024
Carlisle Cathedral has just launched its first Christmas Tree Festival with 30 trees on display.
The festival was officially opened by the High Sheriff of Cumbria with over 100 invited guests including local charities, schools, community groups and businesses – many of whom decorated the trees.
There is a dedicated festival tree where visitors can add their own Christmas prayer or message tand everyone is invited to take time out of the hustle and bustle of the season to explore the decorated trees. There is also a festive activity booklet for young visitors to complete, which includes a present treasure.
The Very Revd Jonathan Brewster, Dean of Carlisle, added
“We are delighted to be hosting our first ever Christmas Tree Festival throughout the month of December. Whether visiting us for the first time or as a regular worshipper you are all very welcome. Together we look forward to celebrating the wonderful contributions made to our local community by the charities, organisations and groups that are taking part, each adorning their own tree. If you’re passing by or need space from your Christmas shopping, please make the Carlisle Cathedral Christmas Tree Festival one of your festive traditions this year.”
The festival has been funded by the Cumberland Council Community Investment Fund with sponsorship support from A.W. Jenkinson Forest Products.
A spokesperson for A.W. Jenkinson said
“We are very proud to help bring Carlisle Cathedral’s first Christmas Tree Festival to life. This is the season for spreading joy, and in these challenging times, a little extra sparkle goes a long way. We hope these trees add some fun and festive cheer, giving everyone a place to come together.”
The festival runs from Saturday 30 November until Tuesday 31 December, during normal opening hours, except Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Donations are welcome in support of the Cathedral.
