Birmingham Cathedral and Saddlers Company singing partnership

15th October 2014

On Friday evening, 2 October, Birmingham Cathedral’s Music Department put on a fabulous concert showcasing their choral capabilities. Guest of Honour at the concert was Mark Maffey, representing the Saddlers Company. Thanks to a kind donation from the Saddlers, two of the Cathedral’s young choristers, Yuhan Guo and Nosheen Ahmed, have been awarded ‘Saddlers Choristers Medals’ for the coming year.

Birmingham Cathedral have been proud beneficiaries of support from the Saddlers Company for a number of years, and are grateful for the continued support shown. The Cathedral’s music department is a gem, upholding the fine tradition of English choral music. The combination of men’s, girls’ and boys’ voices can be heard up to four times a week in the Cathedral for Choral Evensong and regular Sunday worship.

In 2015 Birmingham Cathedral will celebrate 300 years of the Cathedral Church of St Philip. The music of the Cathedral and the fantastic choir will form a mainstay of the celebrations being planned. A number of concerts being hosted at venues throughout Birmingham will help to tell the story of ‘the church that became a cathedral in the town that became a city’.

The Very Reverend Catherine Ogle, Dean of Birmingham said ‘We are proud of our thriving music department here at Birmingham Cathedral, a blessing to the city. With the support of the Saddlers Company, we continue to offer young choristers the opportunity to be part of a wonderful tradition and the chance to broaden their musical education’.
