Where better to celebrate Christmas than at Newcastle’s cathedral, the only one in the country dedicated to St Nicholas? In the weeks leading up to Christmas, the Cathedral will host an array of activities centred around this unique connection.
St Nicholas was affectionately known as ‘the Boy Bishop’, having been granted this important role at such a young age. Visitors can create their own colourful mitre at the Cathedral’s craft station, reviving the medieval tradition of becoming a ‘bishop for the day’.
There’s a special trail using a free booklet that guides visitors around the Cathedral to discover images of St Nicholas. Myriad sculptures and stained glass windows depict stories and legends associated with St Nicholas and show how his faith and generosity continue to inspire us today.
All these festive activities are offered free of charge, with donations warmly welcomed.
Book now for the ever-popular Candlelit Carols on 15th and 20th December.
