From time to time Lichfield Cathedral brings people together to think about hot topics in national life – this time it’s child poverty.
On 6th April we welcome Mark Russell, the Chief Executive of The Children’s Society (one of the largest UK charities working with children and young people) to take us through the evidence his organisation has gathered for over a decade. It shows that we have the unhappiest young people in Europe. One in three children in the UK lives in poverty.
Mark wants us to ask if this is just, sensible for our nation’s future, and should we be working to make a real difference to our young people’s wellbeing before the close of this decade?
The outcome of the meeting will be sent to local MPs, local authorities, and regional and national church bodies. It will also be a stimulus to local, practical action and generosity, not least the Cathedral’s project to set up a mental health and wellbeing drop-in centre for children and young people later this year.
