Experience Worcester Cathedral as You’ve Never Seen It Before Amid ‘Light Night Worcester’

We will be opening our doors for visitors to experience and explore our beautiful building after hours from 6.30 – 10pm (last entry 9:30pm) on 19-21 October, during the wider ‘Light Night Worcester’ event.

There will be an ‘Angels’ theme and visitors can expect after hours fun, contemplation, a torchlit angel hunt, atmospheric music and lighting and lots and lots of candles!

An Angels Exhibition will be on display in the Dean’s Chapel, as well as a magnificent angel carving by our very own stonemasons, drama vignettes, atmospheric music and videos at key locations around the site, angel themed crafts for younger visitors and much more.

We would love to see visitors (the young and young-at-heart!) dressed in angel fancy dress too, and there will be a fun angel-themed photo wall for you to share your costumes on social using the hashtag #cathedralangels.

The Cloister Café will also be open, and you can even enjoy a glass of wine and other refreshments and snacks in our glorious medieval Cloister.

The Cathedral bells will be ringing out on all three nights to mark the occasion.

Canon Stephen Edwards said: “We’re so excited to invite visitors to join us for after-hours fun and contemplation, and to see our magnificent building in a whole new way! It’s the time of year when the nights grow darker and it’s just lovely to wrap up warm and explore these treasures on our doorsteps in new and exciting ways.

“There’s plenty to keep all ages entertained, and we look forward to welcoming our visitors to immerse themselves in our angels theme.”

The event is free to attend, donations are appreciated. No booking is necessary, just turn up and experience the majestic Cathedral as never before!

Light Night Worcester

Four high profile artists have been commissioned by the Arches Festivals to create large-scale projection-based artwork for Light Night Worcester 2021.

The international, award-winning artists and organisations will transform city centre buildings with their light projections created specifically for the occasion.

The four locations are the Old Palace, the Guildhall, the Corner of the Shambles and the Old Granary.

There are also moving/walking minor light shows through the streets periodically.
