Matthew Vernon

Matthew Vernon has been Canon Pastor at St Edmundsbury Cathedral since February 2009. Prior to that he served for eight years as a Chaplain at St John’s Cathedral in Hong Kong, and as a curate in Guildford. He became Sub Dean in October 2012. He is Chair of the Abbey of St Edmund Heritage Partnership and coordinating the Cathedral’s contribution to the Bury St Edmunds’ celebrating the millennium of the founding of the Benedictine Abbey of St Edmund (in 1020). As Canon Pastor, he has responsibility for pastoral care in the Cathedral community, as well as overseeing the Cathedral’s Visitor Ministry. Matthew chairs the Diocesan Healing & Wholeness Group and is a member of the Diocesan Deliverance Team. Matthew was co-opted to the AEC Executive in February 2022.
