Howard Castle-Smith was born in Londonderry into a Naval family and had an itinerant childhood. He studied engineering at the University of Cambridge and spent most of his career working for Air Products and Chemicals Inc., a US Industrial Gas company. During his over 30 years with Air Products, Howard lived and worked in the UK, Rotterdam and Shanghai. His last role at Air Products was Vice President of Europe, Middle East, Africa and India.
Howard took early retirement in 2015 and has since been actively involved with Chichester Cathedral: firstly as the Secretary of Chichester Cathedral Friends; and currently as a non-executive member of Chapter where he has special responsibility for Net Zero. Howard is also a trustee of St. Mary’s Almshouses in Chichester. Howard was elected to the AEC Executive in June 2024.
