David Hoyle has been Dean of Bristol since 2010. Previously he was Dean of Magdalene College, Cambridge, a Vicar in London, and a Residentiary Canon of Gloucester Cathedral, where he was Director of Ministry. He also served as Secretary to the Theological Group of the House of Bishops, as a member of the Development and Appointments Group, as an Adviser in the selection process for ordinands and as a member of the Candidates Panel. He is a published historian and theologian, his most recent book being The Pattern of Our Calling. He is on the faculty at Trinity College, Bristol, is a Governor of Ripon College, Cuddesdon, and has taught history and theology for West of England Ministerial Training Course and on the Eastern Region Ministry Course. David was elected as Chair of the Deans’ Conference in September 2018, in which capacity he is an ex-officio member of the AEC Executive.
