Aidan Platten has been Canon Precentor of Norwich Cathedral since 2017. In this role, he holds the usual Precentor’s portfolio of the cathedral’s liturgy and music but is also the Cathedral’s safeguarding lead. He is a member of the Fabric Advisory Committee at St Edmundsbury Cathedral. Before taking up the post in Norwich, Aidan was a parish priest in London (St Mark’s Hamilton Terrace).
Aidan has had involvement in cathedrals for most of his life, in both parish church and ancient foundations. He was a youngster in Portsmouth Cathedral, a verger at Southwark Cathedral, and a Minor Canon at Gloucester Cathedral when he was also the Bishop’s Chaplain. Aidan is committed to the proper governance of cathedrals, and is also committed to understanding the governance and management of cathedrals in the light of their being praying communities offering ministries of prayer, teaching and hospitality.
Aidan was elected to the AEC Executive in June 2019
