The Precentors’ Conference is open to all those Canons, Minor Canons and Incumbents who are responsible for Music and Liturgy in the Cathedrals, Peculiars and Greater Churches of England, and in the Cathedrals of other parts of the British Isles and Commonwealth.
Lay people who act as Assistants to Precentors or with responsibilities for Liturgy are also very welcome to attend the Conference, as are other appropriate visitors from sister Churches.
The Conference is served by an executive committee (current Chair: the Precentor of St Edmundsbury Cathedral, Suffolk. Contact telephone 01284 748724 or email here).
Communication for mutual support and encouragement, and for the sharing of liturgical resources and expertise, is by email and WhatsApp group.
Membership incurs no charge, except for the cost of attending the annual residential conference.
This typically takes place over three days, round about Holy Cross Day in mid September. A supplementary day-conference is often held in January at Westminster Abbey, by kind permission of the Dean and Chapter.
The Precentors’ Conference has good links with the Cathedral Music Trust, Cathedral Organists’ Association, the Liturgical Commission and the National Liturgy and Worship Advisor.
