Attendance levels at regular week services in Church of England cathedrals have steadily increased by a total of 17% since the turn of the millennium.
At cathedral Sunday services alone 16,000 adults and 2,500 children and young people are usually present.
Each week 24,000 adults and 6,000 children attend cathedral services.
Cathedrals are the key places of daily worship outside Sundays.
103,000 people attended services in cathedrals on Christmas Day/ Eve 2004.
Over the whole Christmas period cathedrals attract attendances of 714,000.
Cathedral attendances on the two major Christian festivals average approximately 2,500 and 1,200 respectively for each cathedral.
1,900 children and adults are involved week by week in providing cathedral music traditions.
Each year over a quarter of a million children attend educational events at cathedrals.
Around 8,500 children are being educated at schools associated with cathedrals.
Over 3,000 specially arranged services were conducted by cathedrals in 2004 attracting over 975,000 people, a rise of 10% since the turn of the millennium.
1.2 million people attended over 3,800 public events arranged in cathedrals during 2004, a rise of 9% since the turn of the millennium.
12,500 volunteers are involved in the mission and ministry of cathedrals.
